Summer Evergreens: Kenny's Replacement + The Russians Stopped By...

·48 min·3 clips
Gary Lucy says, "I took Kenny's job," and the room reacts in real time.
The opener sets up a summer rerun that knows it is stitched together oddly. Kenny has lost the job that somehow came with sleeping on a floor, which is absurd enough before the room realizes someone nearby may have taken it. That mess barely has time to breathe before a Lucy spot slides in and feels less like an ad break than another thing tossed onto the table. Then the episode lurches sideways. The host says they were packed for Ukraine when a Russian fan and two Russian friends randomly showed up at the house. Nobody pretends that timing is fine. The room immediately starts treating the visit like possible spy business, asking whether the guests are a sleeper cell because the setup is too strange not to say out loud. The guest rolls with it. Talk drifts into human intelligence, military service, Afghanistan, and prison, with the panel turning heavy material into blunt, nervous jokes. Vasily gets pulled into the confusion too. The host says the email stood out because the name looked close enough to someone else that, for a second, the message seemed impossible. Ukraine hangs over everything. The guests talk about leaving service around the time Donbass and Crimea were becoming part of the story, and the episode does not try to neaten that up. Hospitality, suspicion, travel anxiety, and historical dread all crowd into the same room while everyone keeps talking. Even the ending goes bleak, with jokes about suicide, money, and dying penniless as tidy accounting. The fun is in how little the show tries to smooth over: bad timing, old jobs, nicotine warnings, military memories, and end-of-life humor all go through the same busted conversational machine.

As heard by us

A grim, wandering bit of comedy built on job loss, strange visitors, and bad timing.

This two-parter moves through a chain of bad breaks: Kenny loses the job that let him sleep on the floor, then learns someone in the room took it.
