The Doug Stanhope Podcast · All Things Comedy

Low Watt Gurgling in High Back Chairs

·2 hr 2 min
Doug opens by warping the sponsor read into a joke instead of a pitch. After that, the conversation moves straight into tour logistics. The Monday club is the first target. It is a rock room with horrific metal bar stools shoved into service. They sold about 80 tickets. The seating was a workaround, not a plan. Cheap inflatable ass cushions were bought on Amazon for the bus, and they joke about handing them out and even signing them as merch. The Tucson show comes back up. So does the last podcast recorded before the show. They admit they were drinking at the pool in the afternoon before a seven o'clock set. That turns into the usual argument over how drunk everyone was and what actually happened. The room keeps circling the fact that they came to the club themselves and that it was open on a Monday it did not normally run. Because of that, there is no easy villain. They could have packed in more people if they wanted to, but that would have meant less oxygen and more misery. The whole thing becomes a little autopsy of bad seating, bad timing, and show business as self-inflicted damage. The talk keeps mutating instead of landing anywhere graceful. By the end, the energy is all rough edges and gross body humor. That closing stretch keeps the show in its favorite lane: touring as damage report, delivered with a grin and no apology.
