Colin draws a hard line between burnout that needs medical help and coaching for everyone else.
Rita Mercer opens with a warning about burnout. She says that if someone is already there, medical assistance is the right next step, then turns the focus to prevention for everyone else. Colin Corby joins as the guest. He is introduced as a technologist, endurance athlete, TEDx speaker, leadership and well-being coach, digital detox and mindset coach, and the creator of Digital Detox Coach. The talk centers on technology and balance. Colin argues that regular digital detox breaks matter because people cannot run at full intensity all the time, the way athletes cannot train hard every day without recovery. Willpower is not his answer. When Rita asks about people who keep trying and still cannot step away, he says conscious choice matters more than willpower alone, but that choice has to be backed by resilience. He starts with the environment. If a phone is always in hand or a laptop is always open, those surroundings trigger automatic behavior, so he recommends changing the setting before expecting a different result. He cites research suggesting that around 43 percent of daily activities are carried out through unconscious habit, which makes digital routines feel easier to repeat than to interrupt. Planning matters too. His practical advice is to block off rest and recovery time in the diary ahead of time, then use the reminder to step away and move into an offline environment. That is where the reset begins. He frames that shift as a way to escape the triggers that keep digital habits running, and the point is not perfection but a better structure for everyday life. The marathon analogy returns. Colin says you cannot run a marathon on day one, and that new habits work the same way: they need training, time, and a realistic pace. Rita closes warmly. She thanks him for the conversation, wishes listeners a beautiful day, and ends by inviting them to like, share, subscribe, and keep living well in mind, body, and spirit.
