“Counter Intelligence” Precon Upgrade | Edge of Eternities | 686

·1 hr 4 min·5 clips
The Counter Intelligence precon offers $4.07 in reprints for every dollar spent, making it a must-buy for collectors.
Counter Intelligence is counters on counters, basically. Rachel Weeks brings Jamie Block in for a $50 upgrade plan: ten cards in, ten cards out, all built around the Jeskai artifact shell from Edge of Eternities. They start with Kilo, then work through how stationing, counters, tokens, and artifacts can make the deck pop off once the right pieces are online. It is busy, but that is the fun. The precon wants to stack charge counters, plus-one counters, tokens, and artifact chores until the board looks like a group project nobody fully trusts. Rachel and Jamie keep coming back to the practical catch: this deck can do a lot, but everyone needs to know which counter is doing what. Patrolling Peacemaker gets the clearest spotlight. They like the Robot Soldier both for the flavor and for the actual play pattern, since opponents commit crimes all the time through removal, graveyard targeting, counterspells, and normal Commander targeting. RoboCop in space, somehow, works. Its trigger turns ordinary table behavior into more proliferate chances, so the deck does not need opponents to make strange mistakes before it starts moving. The ceiling gets ridiculous quickly. Jamie jokes about adding sagas and summon counters just to make the board harder to read, and Rachel runs with it because the confusion fits the deck. They still stay practical about upgrades. The artifact count can dip a little, but not too far, because the best cards want that density. Jeskai catches some gentle heat too. The joke is that a Jeskai commander can spend twenty minutes managing tiny interactions and then hit someone for five, maybe ten or fifteen if things go well. That is the appeal here: not clean aggro, more a table-wide counter engine for players who enjoy visible moving parts.

As heard by us

A cluttered counters deck gets a steady, useful tune-up.

This episode treats the new Counter Intelligence precon from Edge of Eternities as a practical deck check, not a grand theory talk. Rachel Weeks and Jamie Block keep the focus on what the list is already built to do: white, blue, and red artifacts backed by a legendary artifact…
