A blind beggar sits by the road. From that scene in Mark, the preacher moves from ordinary need to the cry for mercy that only Jesus can answer. The tone is worshipful from the start, with gathered worship, Scripture read aloud, sung truth, and the Old Testament promise of new heavens and new earth. Before getting to Bartimaeus, he walks back through chapter 10 so the congregation can feel Mark's movement toward Jesus' identity and mission. Then Bartimaeus comes into focus as more than a figure in the story. He is a man asking again and again, dependent on people passing by for bread, water, money, and another day of survival. The sermon does not shrug off physical need. The preacher tells the story of his son noticing a man with a sign, then helping prepare food, snacks, and water for him. The man is Eddie. That moment is tender, with prayer for Eddie and gratitude for a child's concern, but the sermon keeps turning toward salvation. Food matters. Mercy matters more. The preacher says bread cannot finally give what he calls eternal life and eternal warmth. Begging becomes spiritual language, and the congregation is pressed with a simple question: what are you begging for? Daily provision, or the mercy of the Son of David? The answer is Jesus, the one who hears the desperate cry and gives what no crowd can give. The close becomes prayer, gathering Christ's death, finished work, resurrection, return, mercy, and grace into one plea: have mercy on me, a sinner.
