S3, Chapter 3: Space Bats From The Dark Planet

·30 min·2 clips

Three kids are found dead, buried alive at an abandoned amusement park -- and the claw marks on the bodies don't match anything from the local zoo.

1. The Call of the Void season 3, chapter 3, 'Space Bats From The Dark Planet,' opens with New Orleans police investigating three bodies buried alive at an abandoned Six Flags. 2. Officer Mason and Deputy Paul examine claw marks on the victims and suspect a connection to an earlier reported incident at the Garden of Memories cemetery. 3. The episode's core question is what's behind the killings, and whether the creature from the cemetery attack has now escalated to multiple victims. 4. A separate thread follows Etsy Dahlman being chased through the Moon Lake Casino by armed pursuers who call her a 'little witch' before she uses some kind of power against them. 5. Cole, a hitchhiker heading to Anchorage, Alaska, gets a ride from trucker Jason and falls asleep, dreaming of a voice telling her to 'light the beacon with the falling stars, Titan child.' 6. At a truck stop diner, Cole deflects questions from another driver, Meg, about whether she's fleeing addiction or an abusive relationship, later admitting she's been clean for two years. 7. A cable-news segment features Dr. Fargo Kaminski, who tells host Gwen the creature is 'a cryptid from another dimensional stratosphere,' essentially a 'space bat from a dark planet.' 8. Kaminski confirms his collaborator Christopher 'Topher' Summers was buried alive during the cemetery incident but has since been excavated and is recovering. 9. In a separate scene, Topher and his ex-girlfriend Danny have a tense exchange while he retrieves belongings from her apartment, hinting at a recently ended relationship. 10. Topher meets Etsy Dahlman at a coffee shop, where they discuss the creatures being 'native to the Dark City' and a possible connection to a place called JM Labs, where both her father and his professor once worked. 11. Topher repeatedly calls Officer Mason, comparing the creature to H.P. Lovecraft's 'night gaunts' and offering himself as a consultant based on his cemetery survival. 12. Mason reluctantly agrees to let Topher ride along, warning him he'll be arrested for impersonating an officer if he tries to claim any official title. 13. During the ride, Topher asks about Etsy Dahlman, learning her phone has been disconnected for six months and that she left out of fear of hurting people because of 'her history at the lab.' 14. At the Six Flags site, Topher references the fictional planet U-Goth from 'The Whisperer in the Darkness' to describe the vine-covered, otherworldly look of the graves. 15. Mason has a vivid hallucination of his dead wife Becky and son, who blame him for not being home to protect their child, and he becomes disoriented and distressed. 16. Topher helps ground Mason and reveals he left him 14 voicemails, right before a Night Gaunt creature appears near the burial site. 17. The episode ends mid-confrontation as Mason and Topher try to fend off the creature, with something unseen intervening just as the scene cuts out. 18. The tone mixes police-procedural tension, cosmic-horror dread, and deadpan comedy, particularly in the fake news interview and Topher's eager, bumbling attempts to be taken seriously as a consultant. 19. Listeners who enjoy serialized horror audio dramas with ensemble casts, Lovecraftian lore, and dark humor would enjoy this episode. 20. Listeners looking for a standalone story or nonfiction content would be lost without prior season context and might skip it.
