Introducing: SIGHTINGS – A New Weekly Series from QCODE & Reverb Exploring the World’s Most Mysterious and Unexplained Phenomena

October 2, 2024·39 min·3 clips
Have you ever felt a chill you couldn't explain? Sightings explores mysterious events from Bigfoot to the Polaroid Ghost Rider.
The episode opens with a preview trailer for the Sightings series, framing it as an immersive audio experience covering supernatural encounters from Bigfoot to alien abductions. Hosts McLeod Andrews and Brian Sigley introduce themselves as longtime friends who created the series to dramatize infamous incidents and then investigate the facts behind them. The first episode's story is narrated by McLeod in the first-person voice of Lucky Sutton, a 25-year-old Kentucky farmer. Lucky sets the scene at his family's three-acre tobacco farm in Kelly, just north of Hopkinsville, on a hot August night in 1955. Eleven people are present in the small house: his mother, brother JC and JC's wife, his friend Billy Ray and Billy Ray's wife, plus several children. Billy Ray claims to see a flying saucer in the gully and is dismissed. When the dogs begin barking with unusual ferocity, Lucky and Billy Ray go outside armed with rifles and encounter a silver-glowing creature roughly three and a half feet tall, with a large head, yellow eyes, and arms nearly reaching the ground. They fire at it and it retreats. The creature and others return multiple times throughout the night: appearing at windows, on the roof, in trees, and on the porch awning. The family fires repeatedly but cannot kill them, as bullets seem to produce only metallic clanging sounds. After hours of siege, Lucky orders everyone into cars and they drive to the Hopkinsville police station, where police accompany them back to the farm. Officers find spent shells but no physical evidence of the creatures. The following morning, the encounter made the front page of the Kentucky New Era. After the dramatized story, McLeod and Brian discuss the real historical record. They note the Sutton family's accounts are the primary source and that corroborating reports of strange lights in the sky came from police officers in surrounding areas. Physical evidence at the farm was minimal. They note that no neighbors reported extensive gunfire, and one heard only four sounds mistaken for firecrackers. The episode discusses how the encounter inspired the phrase 'little green men' despite no one in the family describing green coloring, and how creature descriptions appear to have influenced the Pokemon Sableye. Alternative explanations explored include: neighbors in disguise pursuing a property dispute, great horned owls, and the possibility that Lucky Sutton — a former carnival worker — embellished or fabricated the event. The hosts conclude without a definitive answer, leaving the question open.
