How to Use Probability Hacking to Achieve Your Goals

December 30, 2025·51 min·4 clips
Kyle Young reveals how two layoffs in 13 months led him to discover that every goal has a hidden probability you can hack.
The math is the lesson. The guest begins with a planning mistake that feels harmless: treating several okay probabilities as if they average into a strong plan. It sounds comforting. In the marathon example, eating well, sleeping well, and training well each have a 70% chance, which seems workable if you look at them one by one. But goals do not behave that way. When all three pieces have to happen for race day readiness, the estimate comes from multiplying the odds. The answer is 34%. Suddenly a plan that looked likely to work looks more likely to fall apart. The guest puts the rule in plain terms: your odds of success are the odds of each required thing happening, multiplied together. More required steps lower the total, and one shaky step can drag the whole plan under a realistic line. Then the idea gets useful. Probability is not frozen once the plan begins. When one required step gets done, the remaining calculation improves because there is less uncertainty left. Progress changes the math. If one part becomes certain, the rest of the odds get recalculated around what still might go wrong. The point is not to make planning gloomy. It is to spot hidden weak points before a goal made of reasonable pieces quietly becomes unlikely. The better question is not whether each condition seems fine. It is which required condition needs better odds.
