Zee warns Augustus Caesar that a star is on a direct collision course with Rome, forcing the Emperor to mobilize his legions.
The desert is already winning. Arthur and Caleb have been travelling for five days when a phoenix appears in the sand with an arrow pointing the wrong way. Professional duty beats hunger, somehow. The message says somebody needs them, so the exhausted party turns around before bread, water, or common sense gets a vote. The client brings trouble on an imperial scale. He describes watching a star move toward Rome so clearly that Augustus pulled legions from Rixia, Pannonia, Noricum, and Moetia. Then the star changes course. Disaster disappears, but the embarrassment sticks around, and in this room that may be worse than celestial annihilation. Augustus does not enjoy being corrected. The guest keeps reporting strange movements across the zodiac anyway, because his survival instincts seem to be lagging behind the plot. Soldiers enter the observatory tower. Only then does he understand that imperial patience has turned into a death sentence with boots and assigned shifts. His escape is pure farce. He runs down stairs, jumps from a window, survives by mercy or luck, steals a horse, and bolts from Rome. The route turns into panic with place names. Dalmatia, Moesia, Anatolia, and Judea pass beneath him while the star keeps acting like prophecy with terrible manners. The interview-room rhythm keeps poking holes in the grandeur. Omens, military redeployments, and divine terror all get dragged back to thirst, directions, and whether anyone gets to eat. That is the episode's trick. A cosmic warning becomes a job request, an imperial crisis becomes a workplace hazard, and a fugitive confession keeps stumbling over hunger. The closing material moves elsewhere. A promotion for Of Mice and Men and Monsters follows, so the main story ends before that literary-adventure detour takes over.
