Shiba Inu Devs Give Us a Preview of Layer 2 Blockchain Shibarium

·3 min
The episode discusses Shibarium, a new Layer 2 blockchain developed by the Shiba Inu team. It begins by positioning Shibarium alongside existing Ethereum-based solutions like Arbitrum and Optimism, which address scalability, speed, and expense problems. A beta testnet is expected to launch in the coming weeks, mimicking real-world functioning. The host explains that Layer 2 refers to off-chain solutions built on top of Layer 1 blockchains to reduce scaling bottlenecks. These solutions bundle multiple off-chain transactions into single Layer 1 transactions, lowering data load and fees. In an introductory post, Shiba Inu developers stated that Shibarium will focus on metaverse and gaming applications, anticipating growth in the NFT sector. Additionally, it will serve as a cheap settlement layer for decentralized applications on the network. This launch could strengthen the fundamentals of Shiba Inu, which started as a meme coin but has evolved into a serious project with its own blockchain and dApp ecosystem. The move may bolster Shiba Inu's three ecosystem tokens: SHIB, LEASH, and BONE, which collectively command over a $5 billion market capitalization. Each transaction on Shibarium will burn a certain amount of SHIB tokens, though the specific amount hasn't been decided. Burns involve permanently deleting tokens from the total supply. Shibarium's validators will lock up BONE to run the Heimdall Validator software, which provides transaction overviews, and Bore Block Producer Nodes, enabling Ethereum integration. Validators maintain and approve transactions on the blockchain, with the number limited to 100 slots. The episode provides an educational overview of Shibarium's technical and economic aspects.
