Ep39: The Long Game Part III

July 25, 2019
The episode opens with a flashback monologue from Squintbob revealing she spent a thousand years in the Berchik libraries, a time-slowed archive, mastering dark magic, binding runes, time manipulation, and glamours. She identifies the elder god Methaganul as the target and concludes she cannot destroy it alone. She explains that she successfully imprisoned Methaganul behind a warded door in a cavern beneath what would become Alexandria, then stayed to absorb the leaking dark energy for millennia. Squintbob details the history of Alexandria: first contact with native peoples, the arrival of Deep Ones she fought off, the founding of Alexandria University by Pritchard in 1856, and a blizzard that twisted Pritchard's wife into a monster. Rather than killing the survivors, she chose to guide the town's history. She amassed wealth across centuries, founded the Buried Ship tavern in 1862 as a persona named Ulysses Hartwell, and later rebuilt it as the Ironclad Brewery after burning the original to destroy evidence of a Deep One killing. The episode returns to present day with Morningwood rejoining the group and Squintbob revealed to also have been operating as Sam, a recent acquaintance. Squintbob then broadcasts a message to all Bobs across the galaxy via a patched connection, acknowledging she will be considered a traitor but asserting her mission is to protect the Bobs as people rather than serve the Covenant. She announces her intention to either destroy Methaganul or die. Grand Chancellor Plumbob reinstates her rank in response. The group descends to confront Methaganul, who tries to tempt Kilt and Blue with a new Covenant offering power. Kilt and Blue appear to accept but are revealed to have been stalling to weaken the wards. Methaganul attempts to use Joan to break free in exchange for sparing Gorr, but the deal falls apart when it becomes clear Gorr is classified as a Bob and would be destroyed. Joan turns against Methaganul. A battle ensues with Squintbob, Kilt, Blue, and Joan siphoning Methaganul's power until multiple reality tears open. Squintbob, Kilt, Blue, and Gorr all disappear through the fissures. Morningwood survives, having been shielded by Joan. Post-battle, Morningwood recounts the story to a mysterious figure named Dessa, and Joan's fate is left unclear. In a closing scene, Kilt, Blue, and Gorr surface in a rural location and are immediately detained by an SCP-style agency labeling them as SCPs 5282, 5283, and 5284. A news broadcast rolls covering up the supernatural events, and two local characters conclude the episode playing Go Fish.

As heard by us

Campus horror, cosmic threat, and deadpan banter keep the story moving.

The Long Game Part III keeps The Alexandria Archives in its lane: campus life frays under older power, and the episode balances mythic threat with a smaller, stranger tunnel run.
