Episode 1,300: chat with NFL Draft analyst Matt Waldman on Jeremiyah Love and top WRs for Washington and more

April 10, 2026·54 min·5 clips
An NFL draft analyst reveals his scouting process is 'light years ahead' of what NFL teams do.
Episode 1,300 opens with a quick trip through Washington baseball history. Galdi puts Friday, April 10, 2026 next to the 65th anniversary of the expansion Washington Senators' first regular season game. The baseball piece does not linger, but it has texture. He notes the Senators' 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox at Griffith Stadium, their 1961 through 1971 run, the move that turned them into the Texas Rangers, and the long wait before the Nationals showed up. Then football takes over. Matt, creator of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio since 2006, joins for Washington Commanders draft talk, with the seventh pick sitting right in the middle of it. The name that matters most is Jeremiah Love. The case is that Love could pair with Ja'Cory Kroski-Merritt and give Washington both an immediate one-two punch and a longer term backup plan. Galdi keeps the standard tight. The only way he can see Love making sense at seven is if Washington grades him as the best player on the board. That makes the running back question pretty stark. At number seven, in Galdi's view, a back has to look like a super-special player, basically a perennial All-Pro. Matt thinks Love has that kind of upside. He puts Love in the neighborhood of Jameer Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, Saquon Barkley, and Nick Chubb, while making clear Love does not play exactly like any of them. The comparison he keeps coming back to is Alvin Kamara. Love comes across as electric in space, helpful in the passing game, better between the tackles than he may get credit for, and big enough to survive there. The Bijan Robinson comparison gives Galdi a clean reference point. Atlanta took Robinson eighth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas, and Galdi notes that Robinson has been very good through three seasons. The close shifts back to the local calendar. Galdi previews episode 1,301, says Commanders talk returns Monday, and runs through weekend games for the Capitals, Wizards, Nationals, and Orioles. No big finish, just a patient look at positional value, ceiling, and what Washington would have to believe to spend a premium pick on a running back.
