EP.254 - JESSICA KNAPPETT WITH MUSIC FROM DAUDI MATSIKO LIVE @ YORK THEATRE ROYAL, 2024

July 25, 2025·1 hr 16 min·5 clips

Adam Buxton kicks off a live podcast in York with comedian Jessica Knappett and musician Daudi Matsiko performing a folky intro.

This episode is a live recording from Adam Buxton's podcast tour at York Theatre Royal in May 2024. It features comedian Jessica Knappett and musician Daudi Matsiko. The show opens with Adam introducing the live setting and Daudi helping perform a folky version of the podcast intro jingle. Adam then transitions to a July 2025 update from Norfolk, discussing his upcoming DJ set at Latitude Festival, a new single 'Doing It Wrong' from his album 'Buckle Up', and a future interview with David Byrne. Back in York, Jessica Knappett joins the stage, and they discuss how her previous appearance on Adam's podcast positively impacted her by allowing vulnerability. The conversation shifts to relationships, with Jessica revealing she threw a pan at her husband during an argument, leading to couples therapy. They humorously explore therapy techniques, including repeating phrases and the 'did I get you?' method. Adam shares that he gave Jessica an 'arguments with husband log' and admits to recording arguments with his wife for potential podcast material. Daudi Matsiko performs his song 'King of Misery' and assists with a halfway jingle. In the second half, Jessica interviews Adam for her podcast 'Perfect Day', where he describes his ideal day: waking to a bird tapping, cold showers, journaling, manual labor while listening to music like Fela Kuti, receiving a dream acting offer, and family suppers with his children DJing. The episode concludes with Adam back in 2025, giving recommendations for Edinburgh Fringe performer Rob Auton and a pet portrait artist, thanking the crew, and teasing the David Byrne interview.

As heard by us

A live comic conversation opens into Daudi Matsiko's communal song about depression and bipolar.

The York recording works because it treats a live podcast less as a polished interview than as a shared room, where jokes, nerves and second thoughts stay audible.
