Tales to Terrify 721 Dafydd McKimm & L. T. Williams

November 21, 2025·43 min·3 clips
A village sacrifices everything to feed the Gorger, who swallows their livestock and clothes, demanding more.
Acast promotions briefly frame the hour. Then the invocation pulls the listener out of sponsor copy and into the kind of dark this show knows well. The welcome is grave and tidy. Two stories are promised: one about a village visitor with an appetite that will not quit, and one about an English iron and coal magnate whose work is changing more than his career. The excerpt lands with Mr. James. He understands coal mines, metalworks, potential investors, and the black-veined stone. That confidence does not last. Mr. Hughes is there one moment, then a massive boulder is taking up the better half of the room. Gin glasses fall and shatter, and the room stops feeling like a place for business. Knocking comes from behind the rock. The door is open, the threshold is empty, and the sound still comes from behind the rock. Mr. James pushes through. Jagged edges scrape him, and for a moment the thing he cannot explain almost traps him too. Then he sees the legs. They stick out from the middle of the boulder, not underneath it, still kicking in a horrible rhythm. The story does not hurry to explain itself. It lets property, industry, and partnership curdle into a parlor scene no owner can control.

As heard by us

Two grim tales, one slow slide into dread.
