Thick Raven Beak Park

·52 min·3 clips
The 2017 corn cake bake-off was announced with only 25 minutes notice, everyone made half-raw corn, and people got trichinosis.
Public Access tries to begin. Todd Chesterfield opens GRAC on 101.7 FM and immediately gets trapped in the question of whether his co-host should say the dreaded last name. Spoon is suddenly the problem. The bit keeps bouncing between manners and panic, because the station cannot get past an introduction that should have taken five seconds. Episode number two has sponsors, so Guilford's Mayonnaise arrives as official business. The instructions are painfully specific: it is now in vegan. That phrase does not land quietly. Jenda Han's ad read turns into a workplace problem because the mayonnaise never showed up for her to hold. She wanted the mayonnaise. Instead, she has notes, pauses, and the awful new thought that ordinary mayonnaise may not have been vegan all along. The slogan does not help. Jenda tries to say the line cleanly, then gets stuck on whether people actually say where you get your mayonnaise. Her stomach joins in. The sponsor spot quits sounding like an ad and starts sounding like something overheard at a local station. Then the restroom business comes back. Todd returns from behind the restroom and has to explain that he misunderstood whether the actual restroom was open. Nobody really gets control again. The broadcast keeps its cozy station shape while names, vegan facts, sponsor work, and bathroom logistics slip through. A closing note says the show is no longer making new episodes and points listeners to Podcast Performance Lab. The spell breaks softly, leaving a fake local broadcast that treats mayonnaise, introductions, and bathroom access like civic business.

As heard by us

GRAC Public Access turns a sponsor read and a name dispute into the episode's main joke.

GRAC Public Access sounds like a station still working out its own names, and that uncertainty becomes part of the joke. Todd Chesterfield and the co-host keep circling who gets to say what, whether the last name should be spoken, and who is steering the room.
