Feed drop: Camlann, a post apocalyptic audio drama fundraising for its second season

November 28, 2024·27 min·2 clips
A story about losing everything introduces knights, dragons, and monsters in a world that has ended.
Camlan opens with a narrator speaking directly to the audience, framing the show as a story about losing hope, losing everyone you loved, and the impulse to burn the world down and start again. The setting is immediately established as a post-apocalyptic world where one day the world simply ended. In the first action scene, four characters — Perry, Morgan, Di, and Gallet — are fleeing across a hillside from a giant creature. The creature is identified as Twrch Trwyth, the giant mythological pig from Welsh legend, with poison spines, placing the show firmly in a world where Welsh myth has become literal. The group reaches a stone cottage and barricades themselves inside. After the immediate danger passes, the characters search the cottage and its surroundings for supplies. Perry explores a studio down the hill and finds medical supplies sufficient for a year. Morgan investigates the garage. Di checks the cottage interior. The cottage appears to have been occupied by people who were prepared — it is largely self-sustaining with water filtration, food stores, and a truck Perry believes can be repaired. Di discovers a CB radio with batteries and makes contact with a person named Gwaine Turner. The conversation quickly reveals that Gwaine disappeared some months before without explanation, taking food and abandoning the group in dangerous territory. The character speaking to Gwaine delivers an emotionally raw accusation about betrayal, weeks of searching for Gwaine's body, and the grief they experienced believing Gwaine was dead. The call ends with Gwaine revealing a location — somewhere in Wales — and the group is directed northwest to find them. In the second half of the episode, the group decides to stay at the cottage for several days given the supply situation and the approaching cold of Samhain. One character, identified as Perry, proposes lighting signal beacons to attract any other survivors in the area. The group has seen only hostile people in nine months of survival. Morgan argues the risk of attracting dangerous supernatural phenomena is too high. Perry makes the case that isolated survivors need a visible sign of safety. The beacons are lit. In a closing exchange, one character admits to another that they do not actually believe the world will recover and that they envy the other's ability to act on hope regardless. The episode ends with a brief framing outro by the show's creator, who explains the production history, funding situation, and ways listeners can support the show.
