Jack on the Worst Journey of His Life

·1 hr 3 min·2 clips
A piece of cauliflower-fritter paper catches fire in a Liverpool tapas restaurant and Tom freezes with it in his hand.
Tom starts with a pen bit. It is a pen he bought in Japan, with multiple colours and a mechanical pencil. Jack plays along, then somehow makes the whole thing even more absurd. The two of them settle into the show’s best rhythm, where any small object can turn into a full argument if they keep needling it. Jack jokes that the end of his voice sometimes loses confidence halfway through a sentence. That little self-own suits the mood. Lunch comes next, and a Waitrose meal deal gets treated like proof of moving up in the world. From there, the chat drifts to Liverpool. Jack gets there a day before Tom and leans hard into the sightseeing. Liverpool Cathedral gets a genuine rave. The stained glass, the scale, and the gothic feeling all seem to land at once. He then points to the other cathedral in Liverpool, the one that looks more like something a sci-fi villain would build than a church. The city becomes the backdrop for the show’s favorite habit: praise quickly followed by a joke. Guinness is the next battleground. They compare pubs and argue over whether one pour can really be better than another. Jack likes the version at Pogue Mahones best. He still admits another pub had the better vibe even if the pint was not quite as good. The drink itself becomes a miniature argument about creaminess, pungency, and what counts as good flavor. Once that runs its course, they start teeing up the rest of the week, including a book, Fair Game, a Mario Kart update, and a new game that took up five hours of a car journey. The close leaves the listener with a stack of promised extras for the $7 Patreon, including questions and horoscopes, which feels very on-brand for a show that treats overflow as a feature.
