TLDraw Computer is a visual node graph where AI evaluates every operation — including adding an octopus to a math problem.
It starts with name chaos. Dave sets up ShopTalk's front-end, web design, and development lane, Chris says he is infinitely good, and Steve Ruiz turns a pronunciation correction into easy table stakes. The looseness stays. The clearest section is about what TLDraw is for: not rebuilding Photoshop or Illustrator in the DOM, but giving teams a canvas they can use for practical products. The examples stay nicely ordinary. Steve talks about whiteboards with extra stuff, UI design tools tied to a codebase, and AWS dashboards living on a canvas. Dave grabs the concrete bit: if a default TLDraw rectangle is really a div with SVG inside, maybe it can become something from your own design system. Steve explains that TLDraw's canvas used to be one big SVG, partly coming out of his earlier project Globs, which used globs as its primitive and still lives at Globs.design. Then the constraint changed. An early sponsor or design partner wanted a to-do list on the canvas, which pushed the project toward interactive content instead of pure drawing. The technical point stays manageable. Can a canvas host real interface pieces and still be practical to build with? There is some casual side-project energy too. Globs.design gets mentioned as still around and fun, while Make Real comes up near the end as something worth putting in the show notes. The close is pure ShopTalk. Dave thanks the listener, points to Mastodon, Bluesky, Discord, and Patreon, and Chris jokes about signing the site with a pen tool on an infinite canvas. It is loose in the useful way. TLDraw comes across less like a drawing app pitch and more like a conversation about web UI turning spatial.

As heard by us

A lively, technical ShopTalk Show conversation about TL Draw, web canvases, and making interactive tools practical.

ShopTalk Show brings Dave Rupert and Chris Coyier together with Steve Ruiz for a loose, technically minded conversation about TL Draw and the kinds of products people want to build on an infinite canvas.
