Episode 305 - Braven & The Stray

·1 hr 19 min·5 clips
Dan argues the hosts undersold Black Panther, calling it a 'great movie' with 'so much positive thought'.
The episode opens with the hosts introducing the show and its format, where a die roll determines movie choices. They briefly discuss minor film news, including Mark Hamill and James Gunn's Twitter exchange and Paul King's potential projects. The main segment involves each host sharing films they've watched recently. Dan talks about seeing Black Panther, expressing that it was better than he expected and praising its social commentary and performances. Casey discusses watching Takeshi Kitano's 'Fireworks' (Hana-bi), recommending it highly for its storytelling and score. Greg recounts watching the 1985 film 'Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend', criticizing its poor effects and boring plot. The conversation shifts to other films: Greg reviews 'Call Me by Your Name', noting its good direction but lack of conflict, and Casey talks about 'Downsizing', highlighting Hong Chau's performance. The punishment film for the week is 'The Stray', which Casey describes as poorly made with a bizarre plot involving lightning strikes and a dead dog. The hosts also discuss the punishment album, Maroon 5's 'Red Pill Blues', finding it bland. They conclude by rolling a die for next week's films, resulting in a winner's choice and the punishment film 'Guardians of the Tomb', a movie about carnivorous spiders starring Kelsey Grammer.
