Says Who? · Maureen Johnson and Dan Sinker

NUMBER NINE NUMBER NINE NUMBER NINE

September 10, 2025·54 min·4 clips
Dan receives a Democratic fundraising text that brags its ads 'all end with vote Democrat' — and delivers a monologue about how a party with nothing to show on abortion, climate, or gun safety is asking for seven dollars.
No notes, no runway. The opening jumps from Says Who housekeeping into Town Watch mode: Patreon reminders, sticker club business, and Maureen sounding like someone trying very hard to buffer in public. Everything is great, technically. The Creeping Ant Word is coming out within the week, and the deadline panic is already winning before anyone can pretend it is not. Then Chicago pulls the room darker. Federal action around the city comes through in that awful gap between official language and what people are actually seeing on the street. Cicero is the flashpoint. The excerpt names ICE activity there, including people being pulled from cars, while making clear that it has not reached the scale of Los Angeles or D.C. yet. That yet hangs over everything. People seem stuck waiting for the larger version of the threat, which makes the quiet parts feel less like quiet and more like breath-holding. Evanston enters the picture too. The mayor, Daniel Biss, has been on CNN, and the city has warned residents that ICE may appear there during the week. Helicopters circle off the lake. The host reads it as intimidation, not some neutral bit of civic logistics, and does not sand down the point. Still, people are showing up. Protests outside the ICE facility in Broadview and at the Great Lakes base give the segment something besides dread to hold onto. By the end, exhaustion takes over. Maureen folds the fear back into deadline absurdity, Blues Brothers memories, Carrie Fisher menace, Chicago fighting Nazis, and the need to brush her hair. That is the pressure valve: real politics, real fear, and a joke cracked on the walk back to work.

As heard by us

Patreon banter and Chicago-area unease keep Says Who moving from warm-up into civic tension, with a Blues Brothers nod to close.

Says Who? starts loose and conversational, with Patreon chatter, a Town Watch plug, and Maureen Johnson on The Creeping Ant Word before the conversation turns to Operation Midway Blitz, ICE activity in Cicero and Broadview, and the waiting around Evanston.
