Faith In The Face of Adversity | Psalm 62

October 21, 2025·47 min·4 clips
What does it look like to have faith when facing loss, betrayal, or chronic illness?
What do you do when adversity shows up? Will steps between a Joseph series and a coming Heaven series with a question that stays close to the floor: how do Christians practice faith when life gets heavy? The sermon sits with silence, waiting, salvation, fortress, and refuge without rushing past the ache. Hope matters here, but Will does not treat it like a slogan. Christian hope, as he explains it, draws certainty from the future God has promised and brings that certainty into the uncertainty people are living through now. Viktor Frankl enters the sermon as a sober witness, not a decorative reference. His survival of Auschwitz and the reflections in Man's Search for Meaning help Will talk about why purpose can steady people in suffering. The pastoral turn comes quickly. If people need a why to bear the how, Christians are invited to find that why in glorifying God and enjoying him forever. That invitation does not land as homework. Will names the Westminster Shorter Catechism and treats its first answer as a way into joy, peace, and security with God. Creation already praises him. Rocks, mountains, and creation belong in that chorus, and the sermon says human lives are crafted for his glory too. Still, adversity remains real. The closing prayer does not wave away anxiety, brokenheartedness, or pain. It turns the room toward dependence: wait, pour out the heart, trust God at all times, and come to communion resting in the mighty rock and refuge who does not shake.

As heard by us

A steady Psalm 62 sermon about hope, suffering, and a soul that is not shaken.

This sermon keeps returning to a simple question: what does faith look like when trouble does not let up? It moves from Psalm 62 to hope, then brings in Viktor Frankl and the Westminster Shorter Catechism before circling back to God as refuge, rock, and salvation.
