Rev Travis Hackworth - God is still writing your story

April 9, 2026·47 min·4 clips
After his family's trailer burned down, a young Travis Hackworth didn't realize God was still writing their story through a piece of land on Chicken Ridge.
Church, the room is already warm. The service opens with a little podcast business, but it does not stay there long. Soon it is a live church moment, full of amens, hallelujahs, family thanks, and the sense that God is in the house. The preacher starts close to home. He thanks his wife, jokes about angel food, names church people, and lets the congregation know this message comes out of lived life, not a polished studio setup. Then the burden tightens. He warns the church not to treat Christian education like a side issue. The battles will come, he says, but God is for it. Public education, universities, and the legislature become examples of places where young people can be pulled away from godly understanding. The young people matter here. Their testimonies move him, and he hears in them signs that God is dealing with hearts and they are answering back. Brother Cade gives him the sermon handle. The thought about killing a giant but not burying him becomes the shovel for the whole message. Victory still has to be finished when old reminders keep lying there, so the preacher tells the church to get its shovel. From there, he moves into farm-life trouble: winter hardship with livestock, a cow, and a calf. The story stays plain, but it carries weight. Trouble, money, family, Christian education, testimony, and altar prayer all get pulled into one steady claim: God is still writing the story. The ending becomes an invitation. The preacher asks for faithfulness when understanding is missing, then calls the church into honest prayer. People are urged to reach over, lay a hand on somebody, and believe God is still writing their story too. The final note is direct. God is in the details and in the broken places, and the answer is prayer, endurance, and trust.

As heard by us

A pulpit sermon on faithfulness, Christian education, and trusting God in the details.

The sermon keeps returning to a simple idea: God is still writing the story, and faithfulness matters when life turns hard. It moves between testimony, gratitude for church and wife, Christian education, and prayer that pays attention to ordinary details.
