Advent 2025: Sent - Hebrews 1:1-2

December 1, 2025·38 min·3 clips
Pastor John kicks off Advent by asking who Jesus is and what he came to do, launching a series exploring Jesus as prophet, priest, king, and savior.
Advent begins with hope. John reads Hebrews 1:1-2 and sets the season around waiting, celebration, and the arrival of Jesus at Christmas. The passage begins with speech: long ago God spoke through prophets in many times and ways, and now he has spoken through his Son. That difference carries the sermon. John describes the human problem as a communication gap, not because God got it wrong, but because prophetic messages had limits. Jesus is not another message from a distance. He is God coming near. John compares early messages with someone to actually being with them face to face. Then MySpace enters the sermon. He tells the room that he and Marike started talking there twenty years ago, before their first date. It is a gentle way into the point. Messages can be real and still fall short of shared presence. Hebrews goes further: the Son is the appointed heir and creator named in the passage. So Advent is not just seasonal mood. It is the church remembering that God closed the distance in Christ himself. Communion gives the sermon its answer. Bread and cup are offered as signs of Christ's body and blood freely given, while Non-Christians are invited to reflect. The closing invitation keeps the message plain: the greatest gap is relational, and Christ makes knowing God possible.
