Reading John Chapter 8 from the King James Version

·10 min·1 clip
Jesus tells the crowd, 'He that is without sin among you, let him cast a stone at her,' and they leave one by one.
The episode opens with Jesus at the Mount of Olives and then teaching in the temple. Scribes and Pharisees interrupt by bringing a woman caught in adultery, asking if she should be stoned as per Mosaic law, aiming to trap Jesus. Jesus initially writes on the ground, then tells the crowd that only those without sin should cast the first stone. The accusers leave one by one, convicted by conscience, and Jesus forgives the woman, telling her to sin no more. Jesus then proclaims, 'I am the light of the world,' leading to a confrontation with the Pharisees who dispute his self-testimony. He explains his unity with the Father and criticizes their judgment based on flesh. The Jews question his origins and intentions, with Jesus warning they will die in their sins if they do not believe in him. He discusses spiritual freedom versus physical lineage, asserting that true children of Abraham would not seek to kill him. Jesus accuses his opponents of having the devil as their father, citing lies and murder from the beginning. The Jews retort by calling Jesus a Samaritan with a devil, but he denies this and honors his Father. Jesus claims that keeping his word prevents death, which the Jews mock by referencing Abraham and the prophets' deaths. He states that Abraham rejoiced to see his day, and when questioned about his age, Jesus says, 'Before Abraham, I was.' This provokes the Jews to take up stones to kill him, but Jesus hides and exits the temple, concluding the chapter.
