#106 Product-Led Growth with Analytics & Data - Adam Greco @Amplitude

March 20, 2023·44 min·2 clips
The best teams start with “the 30 questions that I want to answer.”
Christian opens by bringing the show back to interviews. After introducing Adam from Amplitude, he asks what a product evangelist does once you get past the LinkedIn version about content, education, and strategic advice. Adam has a long analytics background, so the episode spends less time admiring dashboards and more time on how teams use data when product decisions get messy. Product led growth is the main thread. Adam describes a loop: more customers lead to better product ideas, better experiments improve the product, and stronger usage gives marketing something real to work with. Christian and Alex slow that down and keep poking at the split between marketing analytics and product analytics. Why does the same customer so often get measured in separate systems? Adam's answer is blunt enough to be useful. Separate tools produce different numbers, and once that happens, product and marketing struggle to follow one customer from acquisition into actual use. The Amplitude part stays fairly grounded. He says marketing analytics tools still miss many product analytics needs, while Amplitude was close enough to add four or five big features. The point is shared footing. If both teams use the same data foundation, metrics become something they can argue from, not argue about. Christian also draws a careful line between information used to sell and information used to understand product use, while leaving room for those jobs to overlap. Setup still matters. Teams have to decide what data to collect and which KPIs count before a shared platform can help. The episode stays measured, even when the product led growth loop sounds a little too tidy. The useful bit is the workplace problem underneath: teams need the same view of customers before they can improve acquisition, retention, and product strategy together. At the end, Adam mentions moving to Europe, and the hosts point listeners to his LinkedIn profile without turning it into a pitch.
