S2 Ep11 - Treasure Hunters

·40 min·2 clips
A black liquid reanimates the party after a riddle door opens with a demonic roar.
A riddle starts it. The party is inside the underground pyramid beneath the Sanguine Pool, trying to open three locked doors so the Tabaxi deal can still pay off. Josh says fire. That answer freezes everyone else in place while black shimmering liquid seeps down from above, and the puzzle stops feeling clever and starts feeling mean. The game master lets the silence sit for a beat before the ooze begins creeping around the squares. Then the table snaps back into combat. Josh does piercing damage, and the players turn his target choice into a joke about growth and restraint. Glenn wakes up swinging. The ooze reaches her square, she moves fast, and two strong sword hits put real damage on the Nykaloth. Mallory goes with Eldritch Blast. The amethyst in her hand fires two beams, and the creature lights up with the kind of sizzling, crackling effect the table cannot resist dressing up. Then everyone checks the geometry. Mallory backs away, the group translates range into tennis courts, and tactical panic suddenly has a very practical unit of measure. Sam tries the sling. The pebble hits, the damage lands, and the next problem is simple: where can he move. He follows Mallory, which says enough. Bravado is nice, but distance from the beast is better. By the end, the trouble has spread. Nel and five guards are hiding near the Nykaloth's holding space while Tabaxi are being mauled by a young silver dragon. The party, meanwhile, is in the treasure room stuffing purple triangular jewels. Disaster on one side, treasure on the other. This table lets both be true.
