First Takeaway - Wk 2 INDvsGB

·15 min·1 clip

How did backup quarterback Malik Willis perform in his first start for the Packers against the Colts?

The episode opens with hosts Tay and Ren introducing their 'First Takeaway' format for immediate post-game reactions. They celebrate the Packers' first home win under Matt LaFleur with a backup quarterback. Ren shares he watched the game at the Great Dane in Wausau, Wisconsin, while Tay enjoyed it on new reclining furniture. The central topic is Malik Willis stepping in for Jordan Love, with Tay noting his optimism compared to Ren's initial skepticism. Ren admits he was wrong, praising Willis for executing a conservative game plan that minimized passing. The hosts detail the offensive strategy, emphasizing a dominant run game with Josh Jacobs rushing for 151 yards and the team totaling 262 yards on the ground, the most since 183 for the Packers. They mention the use of motion and involvement of players like Jay Reed and Dontavian Wicks in blocking roles. A key moment discussed is Josh Jacobs' goal-line fumble that could have sealed the game earlier. Defensively, they highlight three interceptions in this game, bringing the season total to five compared to seven all last year, with specific praise for 'Professor X' (likely Xavier McKinney). The second half saw the Packers struggle to maintain momentum, with the Colts making a comeback attempt. Kicker Braden Arvison's missed 45-yard field goal for the second consecutive week is criticized, drawing comparisons to previous kicker Anders Carlson. Tay questions Matt LaFleur's decision to run out the clock before halftime despite having timeouts and good field position. The game remained close until the end, with the Packers securing the win after a timely Eric Wilson interception. The hosts wrap up by teasing deeper discussions on their regular podcast, including the kicker situation and sustainability of the run-heavy approach.
