Out Loud: A Queer Comedy Podcast · Corbin Willmorth

Episode 3 - Chris Jessop

·1 hr 18 min·4 clips
Christian values aren't complicated—but Christians sure make them complicated.
Corbin opens with a joke-heavy setup. He frames Chris Jessup as a comic with more religious exposure than he has, then immediately derails into his own ayahuasca-and-Evanescence theology. The conversation stays interview-shaped. It just refuses to stay tidy. Chris’s comedy background comes through in the way Corbin talks about him opening for a lot of comics and doing numerous shows at the Spokane Comedy Club and in multiple spots over in Idaho. The episode also points at Jessup’s co-host role on The Pod of Great Price, where he and his friend go through the Book of Mormon one chapter at a time and riff and joke about it. That setup gives the talk a built-in lane for religion jokes. It also keeps the whole thing grounded in actual comic-community familiarity. Between questions, the room drifts into side comments, small corrections, and mutual acknowledgments. The ad-break banter is unusually self-aware. Corbin even pauses to talk through how he now understands the manual ad break system on his podcast host. He jokes that explaining the joke ruins it, then pushes forward anyway. The episode finds a real bright spot when Chris points out that the Central Library in downtown Spokane has a free podcast studio for library cardholders. That turns into a genuine little advocacy moment for libraries. It is practical, local, and not at all polished in the way a press kit would be. Corbin also uses the back half of the episode to plug the show’s new unified social handles. Chris’s own socials get a shout, too. The closing stretch lands on a goofy exchange about Mormons, fishing, and beer. It feels like two comics catching one another at the exact right speed. By the end, the episode is less about a formal interview than about the kind of queer-comedy room where the conversation keeps swerving but somehow still gets somewhere.

As heard by us

A loose comic interview with warmth, local detail, and easy back-and-forth.

Corbin Wilmorth keeps the exchange relaxed while talking with Chris Jessup, a comic whose work includes The Pod of Great Price and time on stages in Spokane and Idaho.
