Out Loud: A Queer Comedy Podcast · Corbin Willmorth

Episode 1 - Jenni Watson

·41 min·5 clips
Corbin starts by saying Out Loud is a comedy podcast built around queer comedians, identity, and the comedy community. He introduces the first guest as both a friend and the first person to answer a DM blast for guests, which fits the loose energy right away. Jenny Watson joins from Spokane. She is introduced as a trans comedian, and the conversation stays blunt and easygoing. Jenny says being trans in Spokane is a lot better than being trans in North Dakota. She jokes about not starting transition while living there because she wanted to live, then makes it plain that the fear was not just a joke. A clip from 2023 at Atomic Threads Boutique gives the episode a cramped, kink-centric local feel that has since disappeared. Nothing gets polished out of the mess. A later bit has Jenny riffing on Walmart self-checkout and the small insult of being told to take change. Corbin uses the set clips as anchors, then lets the conversation wander into comedy-scene stories. The biggest one is about a comic who ran long and got clapped off stage. For newcomers, Corbin explains that clapping off stage is the local signal that time is up, not applause. Sometimes comics miss the signal, and sometimes they just ignore it. When that happens, the host has to step in and cut the set off directly. In this case, the comic's table of friends turned on the host and started heckling. Corbin was next on stage and had to calm the room fast. He threw out a joke, kept the set moving, and then got hit with a shout that the other comic was funnier than he was. He handled it by roasting the situation, moving on, and doing a few more jokes. Afterward, he was told he had done well, even though several comics were ready to jump in and shut the disruptive guy down. The episode ends the way it starts, with thanks, a shout-out to the friend who made the profile image, a request for queer comic recommendations, and a final joke about not keeping your head on straight.
