80's Duo's pt1 - Old Skool Movements the 80s Podcast

May 22, 2024·50 min·1 clip
My hearing is perfect everything else is failing.
The Old School Movements podcast returns in full effect. The hosts greet each other like brothers who have been waiting at the window for the rest of the gang to come back out and play, and the opening minutes are mostly about being back together. The chat warms up fast. A plug for Stacks' music slides in, then the room settles into the real business of the episode: comparing 80s duo choices by memory, attitude, and whatever story someone can throw in before the next interruption. Wham takes over early. The group circles around George Michael, how wicked Wham was, and the way old opinions wobble once the songs, the style, and the lived-in memories start coming back in. No one stays neutral for long. Someone remembers the coat that flicked out, someone else brings up the leather-jacket look, and the conversation keeps bouncing between what was cool then and what actually landed for each person. Mel and Kim get their turn. The panel weighs them against Wham, admits past resistance, and then ends up back with Wham anyway, as if the group had to argue its way there. The banter stays unruly. There are jokes about singing every wrong line, talk of muting someone, and the familiar rhythm of a room that can move from teasing to singing to arguing without losing the thread. The episode keeps opening side doors. That leads into more 80s memory talk, including Flashdance, breakdance fashion, and the way leg warmers and pop stars got folded together in one kid's head. Then the arcade hits. The hosts shift to the old joy of games that needed two people, the kind where a pocket full of Tempies mattered and cooperation was half the fun. The memories feel physical. They talk through the feeling of heading to the arcade and wanting a second player beside you because that was how the game worked best. By the close, the group is still joking, still overlapping, and still treating nostalgia like a live contest instead of a museum piece.

As heard by us

A noisy 80s duo debate that turns memory into the main event.

Old Skool Movements starts in reunion mode and quickly settles into a Wham-versus-Mel and Kim debate, with George Michael praise, old jackets, leg warmers, and the kind of mock correction that only works when everyone already has the reference.
