Not Well | A Comedy Podcast · Bobby, Jim & Friends

I hope he chokes on an ice cream cone

·59 min·5 clips
Bobby and Jim start loose and irritated. Bobby is bald this week, and Jim pushes back as the two of them immediately fall into the kind of small domestic argument that only gets stranger with time. A can gets opened backwards. That turns into a whole bit about how people do ordinary things wrong, including the way one of them pulls his eyelids and the other keeps insisting he has never seen anybody else do it. The show never really stops to tidy up. It keeps stacking one weird habit on top of another until the room feels as scrambled as the conversation. Then the weather becomes the next target. They complain about summer that still feels cold, windows left open in the bedroom, and Cleveland dipping to 49 degrees on Saturday. The weather talk lands in the same grievance pile as the messy kitchen, the cramped fridge, and the general feeling that the room is being held together by bad decisions. Politics barges in next. The conversation turns to constitutional rights, gun panic, and the feeling that the people making noise about freedom do not care about anything else. From there it slides into drinks, a seltzer, a Modelo, and the casual logistics of who is getting what from the fridge. The whole setup stays messy on purpose. A bathhouse story follows, and it is less a polished travel memory than a dehydrated, half-chaotic recollection of leaving steamed, drinking too much, and being high enough to make bad timing worse. Chicago enters the story as the place where that spiral really showed itself. There is a blackout vibe to the memory, plus a massage, a bar stop, and a version of the night that sounds funnier after the fact than it felt then. Even the side notes keep moving. They talk about dogs, future plans, Saturday night, and whether a voicemail needs to be checked. The episode ends the way it began, with two people keeping each other talking until the next story shows up on its own.

As heard by us

A loose, profane hangout that turns minor annoyances into a steady stream of riffs.

Bobby and Jim spend the episode squeezing small domestic annoyances for all they are worth. A backwards can opener, weird body habits, a fridge that barely opens, and a room in disarray all turn into loose banter that feels lived-in instead of planned.
