Great Accomplishments Through Prayer – Bro. Terry Ellis

April 10, 2026·37 min·3 clips
Since 1977, the Rock of Ages prison ministry has reached over one million souls with the Gospel.
Prayer comes first. The preacher begins with gratitude for North Valley Baptist Church, Pastor Jack Treber, Ms. Cindy, and the friendship between their ministries. He sounds warm, but he does not stay in the greetings for long. The sermon moves toward the kind of praying that asks God to act. Hugh Sorrow is the example that lingers. The preacher remembers him as a man so burdened that he could barely walk without bowing his heart and knees before God. Missionary labor and ministry fruit, he says, do not come only from years of work. They come from prayer that keeps pouring itself out. Then Elijah takes the pulpit. In First Kings and James, Elijah is a man who believed God could move heaven and earth. The heavens closed. The preacher pictures him before a tyrant king, announcing judgment and asking God to shut up the rain. God answered. The Lord altered nature itself in answer to Elijah, and the rain came back. This is not soft encouragement. It is a pulpit call to believe that effectual, fervent prayer still reaches God. The close turns inward, toward the burdens hidden inside a congregation. The preacher asks God to give the church power in prayer, make them a praying people, and renew their commitment to seek His face.
