Free Agency Primer

Malik Willis leads recent quarterbacks in passer rating, completion percentage, EPA per dropback, and success rate.
Thursday, February 19, 2026, starts in offseason mode. Marcus Grant, Michael F. Florio, and LaQuan Jones get through a little return-from-the-wilderness banter, then hit the question fantasy managers actually care about: who needs a new team. Breece Hall quickly becomes the sticking point. Florio says the talent is not hard to see, but the Jets keep dragging the fantasy case down with bad game scripts, fewer touchdown chances, and a weekly floor that feels too shaky for the upside. His answer is blunt: let him go. The panel does not buy the Jets' tag talk or the idea that this roster can act all-in when it still has so many holes. A running back does not fix that build by himself. Competitive games matter for running backs, and Hall's first thousand-yard season, plus 350-plus receiving yards in each of the last three years, make the point pretty cleanly. The player is not the problem. The offense around him keeps turning his ceiling into a weekly guessing game. The Jets part gets needled fast. Marcus pushes back on any team in that division calling itself all-in while stronger competition is still sitting right there. The segment never turns into abstract NFL chatter, though. Everything comes back to fantasy use: role, floor, ceiling, weekly trust, and whether a good player stuck in a bad spot should be priced like the better version of himself. Pickens, Jones, K-Dub, Pitts, and Breece all come up, but Hall is the one who gives the conversation its edge. Trust the talent, or discount the situation until the situation changes. The vibe stays loose, with wrestling-place banter, travel ribbing, and a closing push for LaQuan to get beignets and a po' boy. Still, the football talk keeps snapping back to roster math. The show is not pretending this is certain. It argues the case out loud and lands on a simple read: Hall somewhere else could look like a top-10, maybe top-5 fantasy back. The Jets are the drag. For fantasy, for Breece, and for almost everyone outside that fan base, Florio sees a clean exit in 2026 as the better outcome. Free agency, in this segment, is an escape hatch. Some players do not need a splashy new contract as much as they need a new ecosystem.
