#119 ~ Stress, Healing, and the Interconnectedness of Body Systems

·21 min
She starts with a confession. Understanding the nervous system, she says, became a huge turning point on her healing path, and she ties that back to the years when vertigo, chronic fatigue, and trouble getting through ordinary life made everything feel harder than it should have been. She wishes she had known this sooner. From there she moves through the body systems, naming skin, hair, and nails before widening the lens to the bigger point that the body is not split into isolated parts. Chronic stress keeps the sympathetic system switched on, and that changes how the body behaves. Digestion slows down. Blood flow, adrenaline, and cortisol rise so the body can run, fight, or flee when danger shows up. She uses everyday threats to make it land. A tiger, a bear, a lion, or even an email can all flip the same alarm when the nervous system reads danger. The short-term response helps. The long-term version can leave a person tired, burned out, achy, and dealing with digestive trouble. She keeps returning to the invisible link. That connection between stress and symptoms, she says, was something she had no clue about when she was sick. Education becomes part of the cure. She says she is including an education section in Gun Clenched, which begins next month, and that it is still open for pre-order. A client named Amy comes up next. Amy had been told by doctors that she had adrenal fatigue, and after decades of chronic stress she struggled to believe change was possible. The host offered her a somatic session, and she also mentions a wearable like the Whoop, an Apple Watch, or an Oura Ring that can track stress and reflect how the body shifts when regulation is supported. The episode ends on gratitude. She says she can see the world in color again after living under a black filter while she was sick, and that feeling becomes the emotional landing place.
