Music Talk 054 - Student Spotlight with Wait For Me

·1 hr 18 min·3 clips
He says drums are the only part of production he truly has “down for sure,” and everything else is harder.
Graham opens warm and quick. This is a student special, with Wait For Me pulled from the Artist Blueprint circle after turning heads in demo streams. The drums become the story almost immediately. Graham brings them up because the guest has a reputation in the room for tight rhythmic work, and the whole chat has that live-course feel: coffee nearby, morning energy, quick thank-yous, a bit of loose-room chaos. Then the production talk gets useful. Wait For Me says he does not begin with a kick, a bassline, or the usual plain foundation. He starts with drums. A top loop or small rhythmic idea gives him the first spark, then he keeps stacking parts until the Ableton session gets crowded. His drum group can hit 25, 30, even 40 tracks, which Graham hears exactly like a producer would. That sounds like a mixing headache, and it is, but Wait For Me wants the movement that comes from all those tiny pieces. The point is not to pile on forever. It is to push the groove until the track starts telling you where it is too much. The talk slides into workshop mode once a producer in the room brings drum questions. By the end, the stream drifts back to real life: posting more musical content, group calls, a workday starting, and sales calls after the wrap.
