R&R 138: Go with the Flow

·1 hr 4 min·1 clip
For the first time in a decade it's unclear whether a Marvel movie will even turn a profit
They open on Tuesday, March 11th, fresh off movie awards season. Before the main review, they say they will come back to Flo because one host had already yelled in the chat for Nate and Joe to watch it, then watched it on his own, brought the family in, and loved it. Marvel gets the first side quest. One host says he has been checked out from Marvel for a minute, but Daredevil: Born Again still gets a quick check-in because it is the newest Marvel thing they are talking about and it sounds like it picks up after the Netflix run. After that, the conversation keeps moving fast. They hit Paramount+ territory with another loud Yellowjackets reminder, the second season of School Spirits, and the UK version of Ghosts. Invincible comes up next. The panel likes how intense it has gotten, keeps noting the voice cast whenever somebody new appears, and stays with the sense that the season is only going to get wilder. Mayfair Witches follows. One of them says the adaptation has drifted far from the source material, but the person watching is still locked in and the show is good enough to keep going. Flo becomes the center of gravity. They do not really hedge there, calling it so good that one of them screamed in the chat, watched it on his own, brought the family into it, and still sounded wrecked by how much it landed. The praise is emotional but not floaty. It stays tied to the way the panel talks about reacting to the movie first as viewers, then as parents or family members, and then as people who still want to compare notes after. The back half opens the floor to listener feedback. They ask people to send in thoughts on Flo, including any problems they had with it, which fits the show’s habit of treating disagreement as part of the fun. The social outro is standard Rum and Regret business. Handles, platforms, and the usual sign-off all come through, along with the show’s recurring monster-hunting joke and a final burst of nonsense. The whole thing feels loose. The looseness works because the opinions are specific, the recommendations are real, and nobody sounds like they are reading from a card.
