R&R 106: Millions of Peaches

·1 hr 8 min·4 clips
Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard is framed as a "love letter" to The Next Generation.
Rum and Regret comes back after a small break and opens by noting that it has been a while. Andy, Joe, and Nate treat the episode like a reset and jump straight into what they have been watching. Nate and Andy have seen the D&D movie. Joe and Andy have seen the Mario movie. Those titles get quick mini reviews instead of a more formal segment, which keeps the pace moving. The conversation then shifts into horror with Men. Joe says the first half of the movie does a very good job of capturing the feeling of being in a very awkward situation with a lot of weird, shitty men. He leans into that discomfort as the point. From there they move into TV talk without much ceremony. One of the bigger topics is a sci-fi series built around an earth-is-screwed setup where massive arcs are sending people to the next nearby habitable planet, and something goes wrong during the voyage. It is not just a weekly "something is wrong with the ship" show. Early damage wipes out the command deck and leaves a lieutenant stuck in charge, which gives the series a real pressure point. They also spend time on Gotham Knights. The first impression is rough enough that they are willing to give it a three-episode watch instead of writing it off immediately. Superman and Lois comes up as another active watch, and the tone stays positive there. The Mandalorian finale is still ahead, so they deliberately hold off on that discussion. The rest of the episode is banter, watchlist catch-up, and a few side turns that feel like people talking across a table. By the end, the episode feels less like a formal roundup and more like a return to the room.
