MTP 491: March Magic Madness: The Finale

·1 hr 3 min·5 clips
Matt reveals a hidden Sangria University class at Three Bridges Grill where guests make their own sangria flight.
The bracket is down to sixteen. Gary catches everyone up after part one, reminding the group that thirty-two sit-down restaurants across Disneyland and Disney World started this whole thing. Then the committee starts voting, though "committee" is doing a lot of work here. They judge the restaurants less like critics and more like friends replaying park trips. That is where the episode has its fun. A vote can swing because of grilled cheese with creamy tomato soup, a room that felt too loud, or the odd luck of getting seated with strangers who make the meal better. Biergarten comes up as more than a plate of food. One memory follows a table with strangers, an Imagineer and his girlfriend, and a conversation that becomes part of the meal. Then the Simba region gets tougher. Raglan Road and the Brown Derby both have real affection behind them, so the matchup is not a clean menu comparison. Brown Derby gets a strong case through the Bamboo Room story, where a first visit came with lucky seating and a server named Moses who made the whole meal feel special. Raglan Road pushes back with energy: the room, the menu, the dessert menu, and that toffee bread pudding. Family history matters too, since Monique's Irish dancing connection gives Raglan Road a pull that a straight ranking would miss. Sheila is less sold. She remembers the place as noisy, then laughs when Steve points out that half the podcast crew was there, which may explain a few things. Her bangers and mash did not land, especially since she usually goes for fish and chips, while Brown Derby still sounds like the meal she would pick with Steve. Gary closes it loose, thanking the selection committee, joking about where bad reviews should go, and leaving listeners with restaurant memories of their own.
