Garage Doors, Rulers, The Future | Thursday Afternoon Monday Morning Podcast 1-22-26

·2 hr 17 min
Bill Burr starts out in check-in mode. He asks how the week is going, then quickly slides into news fatigue and the feeling that the country is just starting fights everywhere. Greenland becomes the running joke, and he keeps circling back to the idea that leaders who do not know what they are doing may just keep lighting fires so everyone watches the flames instead of them. He takes that thought darker, into narcissism, mortality, and the kind of panic that can make someone want to take everybody with them. Then he jumps to a completely different lane. A meal becomes a lesson in basic gratitude and tact. If somebody cooks for you, he says, the first move is appreciation, not criticism, even if you want a little less milk. Baking comes next. He says homemade cake is not that hard, compares it with the work of pie crust, and walks through a three-layer cake that turned out a little uneven. The layers lean some, so he treats them like Legos and figures frosting can cover the rest. Frosting turns out to be the sticking point. He starts watching videos, gets bored, and bails for playoff football instead. His wife comes up too, mostly as the person who will definitely tell him how the cake went. He also pauses to mention that his daughter is already a year old, which gives the rant a softer edge for a minute. The episode closes with sports picks, betting talk, and a reminder to gamble responsibly before the next week of Super Bowl chatter.
