Arthur Colarossi left a 14-year finance career to restructure his mother's 30-year-old real estate network Breteuil with his brother.
In this episode of Mon Podcast Immo, host Ariane Artinian interviews Arthur Colarossi, president of the Breteuil real estate network. Arthur recounts how in 2019, after a career in commodity trading at banks and hedge funds in London and New York, he and his brother Arsène decided to take over Breteuil, founded by their mother Marianne nearly 30 years ago. The initial plan was a restructuring phase to test their working dynamics, which quickly evolved into a full-time commitment. Arthur describes growing up with a mother in real estate, which exposed him to Anglo-Saxon service standards that influenced Breteuil's ethos. His brother Arsène had pursued real estate from the start, building agencies in London. Arthur explains there was no disillusionment with finance, but a desire for a new project, leading them to invest personal funds into Breteuil. They restructured by closing smaller agencies and opening flagships, investing 7 million euros primarily in agency renovations and a new software system. Despite a 30% market contraction post-Covid, Breteuil's revenue doubled over four years, with sales per agent increasing 65% and the average property value rising from 1.1 to 2.2 million euros. Arthur details their 25 agencies across Paris, Normandy, Brittany, Basque Country, and London, employing 125 people, mostly salaried. He emphasizes a human-centric approach enhanced by technology, using AI-driven software to streamline tasks. Their strategy includes targeting higher-value segments to avoid tech disruption, with flagships like those on Rue de la Pompe and Avenue Victor Hugo positioning against competitors like Barnes and Feo. Future plans involve expanding to French coastal areas and international destinations like Saint-Tropez, Corsica, and the Balearic Islands. Arthur reflects on the personal fulfillment from working with family and employees, contrasting it with his finance days. He shares his daily routine in Paris, waking at 5am for dog walks and morning meetings, and discusses the resilient luxury market in Paris, attracting clients from cities like New York and London due to quality of life.
