Dr. Tello admits she drugged Matty and arranged for another patient to suffocate him tonight.
Mockery Manor is a darkly comedic British audio drama that blends institutional horror, crime, and surreal humour. This episode opens with a mysterious figure briefing someone about a mission to copy file notes and assess the risk posed by Matty Burke, an inmate who has been in a psychiatric facility for an unspecified period. Matty himself is established as a cunning and self-aware patient who has survived years of institutionalisation and is familiar with the dynamic of being studied. He greets the new doctor, Dr. Gilda Tello, with immediate scepticism and confrontation, pointing out that he has not received a visit in five years since Jenkins disappeared. Tello deflects his initial anger by producing fast food from the Mockery Manor theme park — now apparently open at Christmas, complete with elves, reindeer, and sad tinsel. Matty shares that his ward favourite Nurse Debbie was dumped by her fiancee two weeks before their wedding. Through this banter, the episode establishes its tone: menace hidden inside comedy. Matty reveals he knows that Jenkins was part of some secret organisation associated with the manor and demands to know what Tello wants. Tello admits she is also part of what she calls the Wizard Empire, and that Matty has historically been safe from harm because he has not publicly shared what he knows about the manor. Jenkins went soft in his old age, she says, leaving Matty as an unresolved loose end. She explains that they have decided to tie off that loose end, framing it as a mercy killing. Matty threatens to tell the police everything the moment she leaves. The episode ends with this standoff unresolved, the threat of violence hanging over the festive small talk. The audio drama is structured as a series of taped recordings — hence the Matty Tapes title — piecing together events across different time periods.
