·1 hr 24 min·5 clips

Kevin describes the NHL trade deadline as his Christmas, fearing a blockbuster will happen right after they finish recording.

The MLHS Podcast episode is a trade deadline preview focused on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hosts Kevin and the analyst open by comparing the deadline to Christmas, expressing excitement and anxiety about potential trades. They review early deals, noting high prices for players like Calle Järnkrok and Josh Manson. The conversation shifts to the Leafs' asset management, warning that trading few draft picks in consecutive years without playoff success could lead to firings, including president Brendan Shanahan. Goaltending is a major topic, with debates on acquiring Marc-André Fleury, Anton Forsberg, or Anthony Stolarz, considering risks, contracts, and fit. Forward needs are analyzed, with Connor Garland highlighted as a top target due to his production and cost compared to William Nylander. Defensive upgrades are discussed, but the hosts note the Leafs already have eight NHL defensemen, making additions tricky. They critique the second line's defensive issues and suggest lineup changes, including splitting up the top line. Other topics include trading Alex Kerfoot, potential low-cost forwards like Mason Appleton, and the role of prospects like Nick Robertson. The episode concludes with a focus on balancing immediate needs with future asset preservation.
