A Sending People - My City. My Church. (Week 4)

·35 min
MidCities keeps the focus on its fall vision series. The church is being reminded what kind of church it wants to be in the Permian Basin: a church that reaches people with the gospel, helps them grow in their relationship with God, and lives generously, with last week’s message on generosity still part of the frame. The service opens with a warm welcome. Veterans are honored, online listeners are greeted, and the pastor points ahead to Engage the Spirit tonight. The teaching then moves into the resurrection story. The disciples are gathered together in fear, and the preacher slows down long enough to ask how different people would have reacted to the news that Jesus had risen. Some would be excited. Some would be joyful, and others would be afraid or doubtful. Jesus enters that fear without rushing past it. The message keeps coming back to one simple idea: Jesus comforts before he commissions. Peace comes first. The sermon lingers on that peace, repeating the idea that Jesus knows their failures, their doubts, and their tendency to be frail. He then confirms who he is by showing his hands and feet. Only after that does the call move forward. The preacher treats that order as more than a Bible detail. It becomes a model for how the church should think about calling, mission, and sending. The close prayer asks God to make the path clear for men and women who sense a call to go. It also asks for provision, not just direction, which keeps the sending language grounded in real life. The church is named as part of a family of churches that carries the gospel outward. The message ends by tying Jesus’ rescue, the church’s vision, and the call to go into one clear picture.

As heard by us

A grounded sermon that puts peace before purpose and keeps mission in view.

MidCities Church's My City. My Church. keeps its focus on a simple idea: Jesus comforts fearful disciples before sending them out, and that gives the message its shape as it talks about gospel witness and growth in the Permian Basin.
