My idol is Bud the Spud. He's who you admire and look up to? A guy dressed in a giant potato costume?

Caden is at Jenny's house on a Saturday with a few friends, and the basement is loud enough to make Jenny's mother complain from upstairs. She says the kids are louder than bagpipes, jackhammers, and her snoring husband. The group is having a good time anyway. Then Jenny changes the subject and asks everyone to say who their idols are. Caden freezes because he knows he has heard the word before, but he cannot place it. He tries to work it out from the sound and then takes a guess: Bud the Spud, the man in the giant potato suit. The answer lands well enough, but it comes back around at school on Monday when he keeps getting asked about the shirt he is wearing. By Tuesday, his friends are still hung up on the fact that Caden said Bud the Spud was his idol, and now they are talking about fan clubs. Caden thinks that sounds like it might be nice, if only for heat rather than admiration. Jenny looks up whether there is already a Bud the Spud fan club, finds there is not, and starts one in Caden's name. She makes him president because, in her mind, he is the one who knows Bud best. Caden shows up to the first meeting expecting a crowd and instead finds only three other members, including his grandma, who says she has been watching Bud on TV since she was little.
