Busted and Pregnant - 10

May 6, 2020·43 min·3 clips
Pregnant and trapped in Barbados, Zara Whitaker must decide whether to smuggle drugs or face deadly consequences.
Zara starts with a desperate thought. She is eighteen, studying childcare, already pregnant, and looking at a future with no money and no backup. Then an acquaintance offers a trip. Barbados sounds like movement, maybe even a way out, but the plan is to bring drugs back into the UK. She goes. Once she is there, she learns she is pregnant again, and the news hits after she has already crossed too many lines. Fear is there, but it does not stop her. In a bathroom, while Maggie goes first, Zara sees a Bible and prays to get home safely to her kids. Then the drugs are shown. They sit on the toilet seat, too much to brush off, too visible to calm her down. Her conscience starts pushing back. She thinks about saying she is pregnant, then knows the men strapping on the packages will not care. Three packages go around her waist. One more is fixed to each thigh. Suddenly the crime has weight, shape, and pressure against her body. They tell her to walk normally. They tell her to keep her head high, as if panic listens to instructions. The cab makes it worse. Sitting feels wrong, the road feels too long, and the airport stops feeling like a place she can simply enter. Then she sees uniforms. Every move feels watched, and she knows there is no looking back.
