THE JANEWAY PODCAST PROGRAM | After "Parallax"

·42 min
Captain Janeway opens the Janeway Podcast Program by checking in on B'Elanna's promotion and the complaints already trailing behind it. Breb is there as producer, and the two of them settle into a recap of the episode. A singularity, an event horizon, and a stranded ship are treated like the kind of problem you can only solve by staying stubborn and keeping your bearings. Janeway says she got closer to some of her crew, even if the situation is still terrifying. The distress call comes through garbled, distorted, and hard to pin down. Once the sensors are cleaned up, the voice they hear turns out to be Janeway's own. Breb reaches for the obvious explanation and gets told, in no uncertain terms, that he is being very Harry Kim about it. Janeway instead walks him through reflections, ice, and water until the problem becomes a lesson about seeing yourself where you do not expect to. The analogy keeps drifting into mermaid territory, because that is apparently where the logic is living today. Breb keeps trying to translate the physics into plain language. Janeway keeps nudging him toward the exact detail that matters. The comedy comes from that mismatch, with each correction feeling like a tiny bureaucratic dispute over reality. The Doctor drops in to complain about his holographic projectors, which fits neatly into the ship's ongoing list of annoyances. That interruption matches the rhythm of a show that likes its absurdity folded into procedure. The closer they get to understanding the reflection, the more the conversation feels like an argument with the universe about who gets to be the original. By the end, the pair admit they probably need a counselor. They also know they are not getting one unless they make one. So they do the next best things: grit their teeth, talk about massages, hug people at work, and plan to pet dogs and drink strong coffee. It ends less with a solution than with a survival kit, which is exactly the right shape for this kind of parody.

As heard by us

A Voyager parody that turns a recap into a serious debate about a reflection.

The Janeway Podcast Program turns a Parallax recap into an in-character argument about what the crew thought they were seeing and why the reflection explanation takes so long to click.
