Bridging Gig Economy and Traditional Employment with Jason Radisson of Movo

·34 min·2 clips
Jason compares frontline scheduling to Uber moving 200,000 people out of Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve.
Ledge welcomes Jason Radisson and asks him to focus on what matters most from his background. Jason introduces Movo and describes it as a venture-backed human capital management platform for the frontline worker. He says the company is taking a gig platform and reworking it for a different kind of labor problem. From there, he uses a propulsion metaphor to place machine learning, generative AI, and traditional automation in the same timeline. Machine learning, he says, is the jet engine. Generative AI is the rocket engine. Traditional automation and ERP are more like the propeller airplane. The point is less the metaphor itself than the speed of change it is meant to capture. Jason says he cannot remember another time in his career when something moved by an order of magnitude in 30 days. The conversation then turns to the layoffs and reorganizations happening in big tech. He argues that some of that is resource reallocation toward the new wave of AI work. He also says text-based careers are already feeling displacement, especially at the entry level. Software development and copywriting come up as examples. In his view, senior people gain the most because they can work with co-pilots and do more with less personnel. That increased productivity, he suggests, should eventually translate into stronger wages for experienced workers. The discussion then shifts back to operations. Jason points to store managers who can spend half their time on scheduling and a quarter of their time on talent acquisition. He ties that pain to the messy reality of frontline labor, where coordination often happens through texts and improvised workarounds. Ledge adds an example about a 17-year-old having to juggle work schedules across a chain of messages. The episode closes by circling back to Movo's role in making that work feel less chaotic and more manageable.
