The Stable Situation

I've got my guitar and I've got my bag of trash.
The Knights travel into the frozen kingdom of Adelcie to look into a strange gathering of undead armies standing still in the tundra. Their route takes them first to Rimeharper, home to Lord Corvax, Deleth's estranged father, who has put together a mortally dangerous competition with an ultimate prize for whoever survives. Randall starts out on the caravan heading north, while the others are folded into the caravan scene as volunteer contestants and related travelers. A few familiar faces from the tavern show up again. Corby is there as a halfling, and the caravan also includes another halfling, a dragonborn, and a driver among the people Randall recognizes from the night before. The table settles into the caravan scene instead of rushing past it, which gives the group room to trade lines, take on temporary roles, and make the road feel populated. Back at the keep, the party wants to catch up to the caravan instead of sitting still. They ask to return quickly and are told the winter steeds are available. Tracker Jurgen steps in to escort them, a human guide with sunburned skin, woolly gray hair pulled back, a braided beard, black leather, wolf fur, and a spear. He says the ride should take less than an hour if they want to catch the caravan before the dangerous parts of the trek begin. Deleth remembers the stables, and if he did not, his nose would supposedly lead the way. The group heads out without much resistance. Ulf remains behind, staring at them, especially Jarek, and the moment hangs just long enough to register before the scene moves on. The road back to the Salted Seal is brief and mostly clear. A few people who were not chosen for the contest are left wondering what comes next. The mood stays practical rather than triumphant, and the episode keeps moving with small jokes, quick exchanges, and little pauses that keep the whole thing lightly comic even as the stakes stay serious. The next move takes the party below the keep. They head into the lower areas where the kitchens, storage bins, and wine barrels are kept. The door closes behind them as they go down into the cellar spaces. The episode ends with that descent, leaving the adventure pointed inward and underground.
