Babel vs. Pentecost : Clash of The Kingdoms

·39 min·3 clips
Pastor Harrison contrasts the Tower of Babel's division with Pentecost's unity, asking what we're really building.
This episode is part one of the 'Church on Fire' series from Kingdom Church. Pastor Harrison preaches a sermon titled 'Clash of the Kingdoms,' comparing the stories of the Tower of Babel and Pentecost. He begins by discussing homonyms in English to illustrate how context determines meaning, applying this to the idea of a church being 'on fire.' Harrison defines fire as neither inherently good nor bad but dependent on containment, with contained fire being life-giving and out-of-control fire life-taking. He shares that Kingdom Church is experiencing growth in St. Albert, including plans to expand their auditorium. Harrison references Exodus 3:2 and the burning bush as a prophetic picture for the church: on fire but not burning up because God's presence is the substance of the fire. He then delves into Genesis 11, analyzing the Tower of Babel story post-flood. Harrison notes that the people had one language and were unified, but their unity was based on rebellion against God. He highlights how they settled in Shinar instead of obeying God's command to spread out, symbolizing disobedience. Harrison poses three questions: what are we unified on, which kingdom are we building, and what materials are we using? He explains that at Babel, people built with bricks (human effort) instead of stones (God's provision), seeking to make a name for themselves. This led to God confusing their languages and scattering them. Harrison contrasts this with Acts 2, where the disciples obeyed Jesus' command to stay in Jerusalem, leading to the Holy Spirit's outpouring at Pentecost. He emphasizes that obedience leads to outpouring, and outpouring produces salvation, as seen when 3,000 people were added after Peter's sermon. The episode concludes with an altar call, inviting listeners to repent and follow Jesus.
