What's The Hold Up - Breaking Barriers & Hold Ups

·1 hr 33 min·5 clips
“Whatever you say, I will do for you” becomes David’s turning point with the Gibeonites.
He starts with gratitude and a plain claim. Jesus is held up as the best pastor, the shepherd who sees people with compassion and wants them to win, and that framing keeps the sermon aimed at practical help instead of distant theory. He keeps it simple. The sermon comes from 2 Samuel 21:14, and he says he gets stuck on phrases in Scripture until they become the seed of the message. The seed is "the hold up." From there he treats a hold up as anything that blocks what was supposed to move, including vows, spiritual baggage, and family patterns that keep working long after the first person moved on. He goes straight at the room. Joshua and the Gibeonites become the example, then Saul's overreach, then David's famine, to show how one wrong oath can ripple through a family line. He does not soften it. Witchcraft, spoken words, and stuff in the family get named as things people have to break out of, especially when they know they did not personally start the problem. Then he swings back to Scripture. Proverbs 26:2 is used to argue that curses do not land without cause, and Proverbs 19 is brought in to push back on blaming God for the results of foolishness. He defines the word. A curse is described as something that stops, blocks, and holds back what was meant to be, and the answer is not emotional release but truth. He presses repentance. The truth line lands as the pivot, because truth, not shouting, not hype, not running, is what makes people free. The sermon keeps moving. A final line-at-the-counter story turns the whole thing into an image of delay, bad company, and a crowd standing still while the wrong line goes nowhere. He turns the knife just a little. The altar call lands on the plain question of whether you know you are not right and are ready to move.

As heard by us

A direct sermon on what keeps things held up and why truth matters.

This sermon uses "the holdup" as a plainspoken way to talk about what keeps life stuck. It moves from 2 Samuel into Proverbs, then into vows, family patterns, and spiritual blockage, so the point stays anchored in scripture even as it reaches into everyday life.
